There are a wide variety of eating options in the Cameron Highlands ranging from sampling sticky-sweet fruit for lunch at a farm or fine dining at the luxury hotels. In general, Brinchang is better known for its Chinese food whilst Tanah Rata is renown for its Indian fare, although there are decent options for sample both cuisines in either.
Many restaurants serve the traditional steam boat which involves dipping raw meat, fish and vegetables in a caldron of broth until cooked. In Tanah Rata there are nighttime food stalls opposite the post office and along Main Street which offer the best value for money eats.
The Cameron Highlands is also among the few places in Malaysia where one can still enjoy traditional tea and scones. This British indulgence is still thriving and makes for a perfect energy boost while exploring the breathtaking, undulating countryside.
The nightlife scene is much better in Tanah Rata, although is certainly not rowdy and limited almost exclusively for the burgeoning traveller crowd.
You’ll be hard-pressed to find any decent bars in Brinchang which is a more traditional place unused to the hedonistic demands of Western travellers.
